Tell Us Why enables any member of the Irish public to email a TD, asking them why they think they should be elected, and makes the explanation available to all voters. Even disgraced banks can participate!
Tell Us Why is a non-profit with no political agenda except to “improve the quality of candidate information available to the electorate at this critical moment in our nation’s history.” The campaign encourages citizens to email candidates to encourage them to participate. A noble pursuit, I think we can all agree?
But one candidate received a Tell Us Why email from an unlikely source – Anglo Irish Bank. We removed the sender’s name and other information so she (ahem) won’t get in trouble for using her work email for quizzing Dail candidates.
Unless Anglo are undertaking a new initiative of reaching out to and grilling potential politicians? Dear candidate – ask not what you can do for your electorate but what you can do for Anglo.
Given this was a private citizen this is only a 2 on the 5 point Gaffe-o-meter. (More on the Gaffe-o-meter anon.)
